Welcome to Shady Lane Drive Inn
Shady Lane Drive Inn sits on Main Street in Tifton and keeps a long local story going since 1966. I find the place tied to classic Georgia drive-in dining, with a menu that leans on hot dogs, burgers, milkshakes, and simple comfort food. The setting feels casual and easy to use, with drive-through, takeaway, dine-in, delivery, and outdoor seating. It fits lunch runs, dinner stops, and solo meals with the same no-fuss pace.
The draw here starts with the chili dogs and slaw dogs. Regulars praise the steamed buns, the sweet chili, and the balance that comes with each bite. I also see plenty of love for the chuckwagon sandwich, cheeseburger, steak sandwich, fries, and milkshakes. The cherry shake, in local talk, gets a nod too. Price points stay in the low range, so it works well for a quick meal without much strain on the wallet.
Shady Lane Drive Inn also feels like a place with real roots in the community. Families, groups, and passersby share the same tables, and the crowd stays mixed through the day. Parking comes easy, payment options stay modern, and the site is accessible for wheelchairs. If you want Tifton comfort food with history, heat, and a steady old-school rhythm, this spot belongs on the local list.

About
I see Shady Lane Drive Inn as a classic roadside stop with a strong local identity. It sits at 522 Main St S in Tifton, near the kind of traffic that brings in school crowds, lunch breaks, and travelers who want a fast meal that feels familiar. The casual setting keeps the mood relaxed. It suits quick visits, but it still leaves room for a sit-down meal at the tables.
The layout supports easy dining. Guests can pull through, take food to go, order delivery, or stay for table service. Outdoor seating adds a simple open-air option, though the tables can catch the Georgia wind. Parking is simple, with both a lot and street spots. The restaurant also supports wheelchairs at the entrance and in the car park, which helps keep the stop practical for more guests.
The crowd shifts through the day, with lunch drawing the biggest rush. Friday lunch runs the busiest, so timing matters if you want a short wait. Early mornings and later evening slots move with less pressure. The place feels like a local constant, the kind of stop people point to when they talk about Tifton comfort food. It has that “same-good-same-time” feeling that keeps regulars coming back.

What People Say
Most Liked
People talk most about the hot dogs, and the chili dog leads the chat. The steamed buns get praise for the soft texture and the way they hold the chili and slaw. The slaw dog also earns strong notes, along with the chili cheese dog and cheesedog. That stock of simple flavors is the heart of the place.
Many guests point to the chuckwagon steak sandwich, cheeseburger, fries, and milkshakes. The sweet chili style shows up in a lot of praise, and the old-school recipe feel stands out. I also hear good things about the value, since the low price range makes a meal here easy to fit into the week. There is a loyal, almost club-like pride in the reviews, and that says plenty.
Most Disliked
Most concerns are small and practical. Some guests mention the picnic tables and say they could use more cleaning. Outdoor seating works well, yet the open-air setup can pick up wind and weather. That can shape the visit if you plan to eat outside.
The lunch rush can also mean a wait, especially on Friday. The place draws a crowd at peak times, so a quick stop can feel less quick. Menu fans tend to focus on a few signature items, so diners looking for a wide range of extras may find the list simple. For a classic drive-in, that narrow focus feels part of the identity, not a flaw for everyone.

I came to this place due to the history. Shady Lane Drive Inn has operated since 1966 and is known for its hot dogs. It did not disappoint me. Check this place out if you're passing through. I enjoyed the hot dogs and fries.

Fantastic food & service. Great prices. We tried the chuckwagon sandwich and the chili slaw dog. Both were amazing, and the slaw is the best either of us have ever had!!!

This place is top notch for me. They steam the buns so when you eat the chili dogs it all just blends together. It is the best chili dog I have ever eaten and it's not even close. I went to the Varsity in Atlanta using Shady Lane as a reference. I was so disappointed in the Varsity. Shady lane is home to the best hot dog I have ever eaten and it is the same now as it was 25 years ago. No matter if it's the chili dog or slaw dog, it's a perfect blend. This place is a treat.

Ate here for the first time when I was in high school in 1990. Have loved it ever since. Sweet (not spicy) chili dogs, excellent burgers and chicken sandwiches. Wife likes the milkshakes. Would be nice if the picnic tables were washed off once in a while…. My only gripe. Can’t help the weather and for some reason the wind blows more here than anywhere else in Georgia. Great local place to eat.

The BEST chili dog in all of Georgia! Been eating them since around the 80s.

When I was a little girl going to the feed store with my grandpa, we would always stop by Shady Lane on the way home. After he passed, Shady Lane held a special place in my heart. Imagine my delight upon moving back and discovering that it was still here and thriving. Of course, I stopped in and I'm here to tell y'all, folks, one sip of that strawberry millshake and it was like I was that little girl again. Everyone was so friendly and the prices can't be beat. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you stop by, you won't regret it!

Driving thru and stopped for a quick lunch. Best chili I've ever had. A little sweet, not spicy, no beans. Hot dogs were red, which I've never seen but a Google search made me realize it's not uncommon! Slaw dogs were great, too. Apple pies were on point. Prices are reasonable. Wish the tables outside were a little nicer, as this is definitely not something easily eaten in the car - but there are no surprises. What you see is what you get and the dogs are delicious.
